Sacred Heart Chapel on the campus of LMU in Los Angeles is where I honed my guitar playing skills while playing every Sunday at mass. Although I learned to play guitar and ukulele as a child, the frequent practice I got playing in college is when I really started to learn different techniques.
Yesterday we took a road trip to one of my old stomping grounds- Loyola Marymount University. The campus of LMU looking better than ever! I guess I didn’t fully appreciate this stunning and well-manicured campus when I walked the halls and paths, as a young student. The age of its beautiful landscape with sprawling lawns, timeless and enormous palm trees and the meticulous antique buildings that sit on a bluff above the ocean, made me grateful for the education I received and the overflowing nature and history that was my home for three years.
Some things have changed (for the better). The library moved. Way back when (1980’s) I was a walk-on for the men’s volleyball team and was fortunate to play in Gersten Pavilion, but maaaaan, would I have loved to play in the enormous, fully-equipped gymnasium that’s there now!
We took a few minutes to look over the bluff at all the new buildings below, in LA. The “Hollywood” sign is still there and still visible from campus. It was a treat to take a quick walk around a place that holds so many good memories for me. A reminder to me to be grateful and not to take things for granted. Go Lions!!!!!!
